Painting Reflection
6 and 1 (pictures for all of them)
The most challenging yet successful piece I had done this year is my water color nature piece, this piece took around three weeks to complete. It was very difficult because of the size of the piece, and It is the largest painting that I have ever done. Something I had to learn how to do when I was doing this project was patience and layering the paint, If I had to guess I would say that there is over 50 layers on this pieces. Looking at the progress of the painting you can see all the layers that where added onto it throughout it.
After finishing this project and having it look amazing I realized how important it is to take my time working with any piece I do for it to come out the way I want. I know that having a plan is part of this class but for some reason not having a plan helps me use more of my imagination which helped me think of the colors to use for this piece because there wasn't really blues in the reference picture but I added some anyways I also used some greens in there also.
My favorite medium to work with is acrylic because I love the control that I have while painting and I also like the look of it. I haven't exactly mastered it but I think I have defiantly gotten the hang of it for the most part because I don't struggle with it that much anymore doing an acrylic painting is fun for me and I always have high hopes for them. You can clearly see the progress from freshman year to now (junior year).
My Hundervassen may not be the worse thing that I made this year but I defiantly could have been way more successful in it I don't think it is finished at all I could have spent more time on it, I may even fix it later in the year. I like the idea of the piece but I dont think that I executed it very well I think that I didn't even have a set color scheme and the whole thing just looks sloppy. If I were to do this project again I would plan it better so that I could have better understanding of what goes where and maybe if I knew more of what I was doing I could have finished it faster also.
Looking through my portfolio from just this semester I do think that it does have an accurate representation of what I have learned and how I have grown through the semester especially while reading through the reflections on each piece describing the projects and the vocabualy that I used throughout the semester. I noticed while reading them that I also realize the mistakes that I made in the pieces and that isn't something that im used to doing so I think it has helped me learn what to do and what not to do in future projects.
