Scratch Board |
This is the first scratch board project that ive done and I was really pessimistic when I first started because I thought that I would mess up and not be able to fix it and just overall hate my piece and would make me want to start over, Surprisingly I dont think I messed up too bad because all the proportions aren't off. I think I could have taken more time to make better smooth transitions between values because there is a lot of light but even though there is too many highlights I think that the deep darks make up for it and add balance. If I could change one thing about the whole piece might just be the size I made it. I think this piece could have been better executed with a larger size so that I would be able to add in more details and value range. We were focusing on movement for this project so I do think it is successful as a project. I think its funny that you can see me in the reflection of the piece. I think something cool I could do is print out a picture of the original and take a picture of it with the scratch board reflecting it.

Self Portrait |
This is my third self portrait that ive done for class but this is my first expressive self portrait piece that ive done and I forgot that I like working with dramatic expressions in my art and im really happy I got to revisit that with this project and I want to work more with it in the future. I think that I have really nice color scheme specifically with the skin tones and undertones in the face. Something that I have been doing better in my color pencil portraits is better blending and taking more time to have smooth transitions and correct values along with colors. I could have done better on the eyes like the eyelashes and the iris of the eye on the right. I know that I should have done a better background than just a flat purple but I was rushing towards the end which is another thing I need to work on. I dont think that this project made me grow as an artist just because Ive done so many piece similar to this one. in the future I want to push myself more so that I can learn more when I make art for class because this being my senior year I want to squeeze every drop of this experience.

Reflective Project
Yes, another animal portrait. This is a portrait of my new puppy Karma. She was only 3 months old when I took the picture of her that I used as the reference picture. The setting is in space with the sun behind her shining still coming through past her helmet and the moon more close to her. The scene is pulled together with countless stars in the background and also noticeably reflecting on her helmet. Though I do like this piece a lot I do think that I could do better on the shading on the inside of the helmet and on the helmet as well and having more light on the side facing the sun instead of the whole thing being the same shade. I overall love this piece and think that it is a successful piece.

Practice
Egg drawings
We practiced using colors to show the values in the pictures with dramatic lighting.
Look at that view projectI used a worm’s eye view and drew an ant hill with a person shoving their hand into it. I do think that this piece was successful because the perspective and style of the piece came out the way I wanted it to. So that there is depth/dimension to the piece and its good to practice when using realism. Building up to starting this project we worked on multiple perspective exercises including 1-point, 2-point, interior building, bird’s eye and worm’s eye. This was important to the success of my piece because it helped me understand how the contrast of different sizes of objects when they are either far away or close. The main technique that I used was taking the turpentine and using it to blend the colored pencil on the background and the foreground. I was able to achieve the perspective that I was looking for in my piece

Perspective practice
Still life final
This project was really satisfying for me to do because i had never used so much contrast in a still life. I have done about 4 still lifes throughout all the art classes that i have taken. I think that using the depth of shades where really helpful to add dimension to the still life and it was easy to add more detail. I found it hard to still maintain texture especially when i was doing the stuffed snake and the shoes and the hat. i erased part of the hat and never finished highlighting and blending so the erased parts look really weird.

Colored Pencil Practice
Still Life Project
I used a wide range of values in this piece you can see the most contrast i the general area of the cup holder. i used charcoal and white chalk pencils. This is the first still life that ive done with this much range of value, the past three years ive never tried to push the darks or lights till now. I think that the fabric practices we did in this class helped a lot just to learn how to put the right value. It was really easy to blend in this piece. look at the part of the sanke that is next to the cup with pencils, the dark gradually blends out to the darks. i think i did a really good job blending and transitioning from dark to light and vice versa.

Fabric Study
Room Contour Drawing
BookBag and Shoes Contour Drawing
We used this practice to get ready for the final full room contour drawing.
Contour Drawings
These contour drawings we once again focused on the objects in front of us but this time we watched what we were putting down on the paper as well.
Blind Contour Drawing
This practice we were focussing on proportions without looking at what we were drawing to focus on how to study to object infront of you instead of what you put down on that paper.
